Laying a Healthy Foundation
Many people come to see us because they are in pain. They have reached this point due to dysfunctional movement patterns that prevent them from adapting to stress. In the first phase of care our goal is to become aware of these old patterns and form new, functional patterns. This typically requires more frequent visits up front, as we are trying to free you from the patterns that got you stuck in the non-adaptative state.
Most people focus on their pain and use that as an indicator of their overall health. Unfortunately, the underlying cause is there long before the pain itself shows up. Pain is the tipping point, when your body can no longer compensate for the lack of integration and adaptation. If we only focused on getting you out of pain, you would likely retain the dysfunctional patterns and end up back where you started, in pain.
For example, consider a cavity in your tooth. Does it hurt when it first develops or only after it has become serious? How about heart disease? Regardless of whether you are talking about cancer, heart disease, diabetes, stress or problems with the spine, pain is usually the last thing to appear. When you begin Chiropractic care, pain is also the first symptom to disappear, even though much of the underlying condition remains.
