Learning to Adapt
Now that you have developed a functional foundation, we are ready to move into the adaptation phase. This phase is designed to support your neurological needs for you to optimally adapt to the stressors of life. The purpose of Phase 1 is to help you feel better, and Phase 2 is designed to help make these positive changes permanent.
Part of this process is decreasing the frequency of your adjustments. As you build body-awareness, you will start to integrate tension as you experience it. The goal is a body that adapts as stress is encountered, not one that is dependent on outside sources to maintain good health. Your visits during this phase are to ensure you are still moving in the right direction, think of them as a course correction.
You may still fluctuate in and out of dysfunction during this phase. Do not be alarmed! Remember, healing takes time. As we move in the right direction, old habits and patterns will resist the new changes. We continue seeing you during this time to stay on top of these potential slips. You will likely start to notice the periods of dysfunction will be less frequent, intense and shorter in duration.
